If you haven’t been in the garden behind the Longfellow House (and the Maine Historical Society building), then you should. It’s a nice oasis of quiet on Congress Street, fifty or yard from Monument Square, where there’s usually something (protest, disburbance) going on and where Preble, Congress and Elm Streets all meet.
There are plans afoot to provide easier access to the fort, for tourists and/or the curious. I’m curious about the fort sitting out in the middle of Casco Bay! Currently you can get to the fort by kayak, water taxi, or by swimming (I suppose).
I can’t find the link to the news story describing the plan to make the fort more accessible. If I find it, then I’ll post it.
I scan my black-and-white film as color negative, instead of using the black-and-white setting in the otherwise decent scanning software I use. TMAX scans a little bluish. When I edit in Photoshop I switch it from RGB color to grayscale after I’ve cleaned up scratches and dust and things. But I like the color of the film as it’s scanned. Blue is kind of soothing.
